Physical Exams for Cats & Dogs
Regular exams are just as important for cats and dogs as they are for people when it comes to maintaining long-term health.
Together with routine vaccinations and parasite prevention and good nutrition, regular checkups give your pet the best chance at good long-term health.
Visiting the vet regularly for checkups allows us to prevent health problems from developing in your pet, or to catch them in their earliest and most treatable stages.
The Exam: What to Expect
During a routine exam, the vet will inspect all aspects of your pet's physical state to ascertain their overall health. This will include:
General Condition
We will start by looking at your pet's general demeanor and body condition: how they walk and stand, whether they are bright and alert, and whether they have the appropriate body weight.
Coat & Skin
We will also look at the coat and skin for any problems, such as dryness or oiliness, dandruff, excessive shedding, lumps, bumps or abnormal hair loss.
Face & Head
The eyes, ears, and nose will be examined for any discharge, abnormalities or growths, and the mouth for signs of oral health problems like plaque buildup or periodontal disease.
Internal Health
We will check the heart and pulse to identify any abnormality in heart rate and rhythm, or blood pressure issues. We will also listen to the lungs for evidence of abnormal breathing.
The lymph nodes will be assessed for swelling or pain, and the abdomen to ensure that the bladder, kidneys, liver, intestines, spleen and stomach are normal, and to see if there is any evidence of discomfort.
Puppies & Kittens
We’ll start your buddy off with a thorough physical exam, immunizations, parasite testing, and deworming medication.
We'll also provide helpful information about how to care for your pet and provide you with a puppy or kitten kit with samples and plenty of educational material.
Seniors
Senior pets are living longer than ever before, thanks in large part to advances in medical knowledge, new therapies and better nutrition.
In addition to the routine wellness procedures we perform on all adult animals, senior pets will receive special attention for age-related issues, such as arthritis or decreased vision. Additional laboratory tests will also help you assess your pet’s overall health.

Vaccinations & Prevention
